Chia Hung Kao joined DBSE at 2002. Under the supervision of Dr. Jiau, he performed several researches in empirical software engineering, software quality evaluation, open source software, and software maintenance. After getting his doctorate degree, he joined Institute for Information Industry (III) as a senior engineer, and participated in the development of several cloud computing and big data analytics products. After five years working in III, he joined National Taitung University as an assistant professor in 2015. Currently, he is trying to contribute to Taitung (his hometown) in healthcare and education based on his knowledge on software engineering, cloud computing and big data analytics.

  • Testing and Evaluation Framework for Cloud Computing Environment

    • Project Role: Principal Investigator
    • Project Description: In this research, a functional and quality evaluation framework for cloud computing environment is designed. The framework conducts the process of testing and evaluation of cloud computing environment, integrates appropriate methods and tools, and automates particular steps to streamline the testing and evaluation tasks. Based on the testing and evaluation framework, it can facilitate the functional and quality evaluation both from the perspectives of users and developers/service providers.

  • Cloud Appliance Kernel Environment
    (2015)
    • Project Role: Project Manager
    • Project Description: Cloud Appliance Kernel Environment (CAKE) is a complete server virtualization management solution based on KVM. It supports lifecycle management of virtual machines, and provides user friendly management console for administrator and users. High availability and scalability for physical CAKE cluster and virtual environments are also considered. CAKE is suitable for SMB (Small and Medium Business) environment. In addition, it can serve as the fundamental component to support the Hosted Private Cloud (HPC) business model.

  • Testing and Evaluation Framework for Cloud Computing Environment
    (2016-2017)
    • Project Role: Project Manager
    • Project Description: A joint project for Institute for Information Industry (III) and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop ARM based hypervisor and related advanced virtualization technologies. III is responsible for functional and performance testing on virtualization technologies, including 1. Automatic testing framework based on Jenkins, JMeter, Cacti, Testopia and Bugzilla 2. Test cases and related test scripts for live migration and fault tolerance mechanisms and 3. Fault injection based testing.

  • Cloud Object Storage Appliance
    (2011-2013)
    • Project Role: Core Developer and Test Leader
    • Project Description: Cloud Object Storage Appliance (COSA) helps users finding, organizing and collaborating relevant information. It provides features like associating rich metadata with objects, managing multiple versions of objects, supporting indexed searching by either or both metadata and content, and sharing and synchronizing copies of files between devices and multiple users.
